What to wear: Get comfortable because this neighborhood spot is pretty laid back. We’re thinking sneakers and our favorite gym gear.
What if I told you it was possible to take away the guilt from indulging in your favorite dishes? That is Michelle Posada’s goal with Michi’s in Doral. It is all about the same delicious foods we love to eat, yet turning up the health consciousness by switching out a few ingredients. “Michi’s is not just about the food; it’s a lifestyle,” says Michelle, founder of Michi’s.
What to expect: Michi’s is a vibrant location where the interior decor is as fresh as the food they serve on the plate. They are located in a Doral shopping center facing NW 41 Street, so leave a few minutes early to find a good parking spot. As you walk in, you will immediately be greeted by a counter with black bar stools and fun quotes sprinkled around the restaurant. Behind the counter, you may catch a glimpse of their powerful smoothie blender and a container or two of organic almond butter.
The Menu: We promised you healthy, so on the menu, you will surely find multiple options of mixed juices and breakfast bowls. Some smoothies may include whey protein and sugar-free syrup. Arepas are definitely present, but they make their debut made from quinoa, oatmeal, or corn. Power pancakes and waffles also make the cut, as do salads, wraps, and healthy pizza. Oh, it does exist! Let’s not forget Michi’s colorful bowls where you can choose brown rice, jasmine rice, or quinoa topped with fresh lean meats.
What to order: Here’s what we tried and recommend.
Spicy Tuna Poke: It’s like art in a bowl. We chose quinoa as our base for the spicy tuna. Placed around the tuna were grilled pineapple, cucumber, sliced avocado, and a few plantain chips for that crunch. The light spicy mayo brings in the kick, but just enough.
Vuelve a la Vida Ceviche: For some ,it may bring back memories of a favorite dish from Venezuela. It means “Return to Life” to denote the preparation of the seafood. Whether or not this aphrodisiac food will turn up the turbo drive, you can expect seasoned white fish, calamari, and sweet peppers in the mix. Flavors also come from the tomato sauce, sriracha and lime.
Pasta alla Marinara: As they say at Michi’s, you really won’t believe it’s 100% whole wheat flour. The reason it is better for you is because the “whole” part offers the most nutritional value. You still want to be mindful of your portions if you’re looking to lose a few pounds. But we’re here to eat, so we slurped up every bite. Shrimp, mussels, and calamari are cooked in marinara sauce. We sure love our carbs and friends of the sea.
Off the menu: Michi’s understands your health regime. Ask for substitutions or even alternatives for the gluten free.
How to score a table: Michi’s takes reservations and all seating is indoors. Can’t wait? Order your healthy arepas on Uber Eats tonight.
