Want to eat like you grew up in paradise? Hapa’s Hawaii-style home cooking will keep you coming back for more.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Find the remedy for homesickness right here. Founder Neil is a lifelong Kailua, Hawaii resident and has called Miami home for about 4 years. He’s at Hapa nights and weekends, where you will find him behind the counter taking your order or helping to prep in the kitchen. We like a man that’s hands-on! Neil also makes the best recommendations to order so of course, we had to ask.

WHAT TO WEAR
In Miami Beach, you may find barely-there bathing suits strolling outside this spot, but indoors, please keep on your shorts and shoes. Flip flops are fine. It’s Miami, people!
THE MENU
Hungries will love the customizable options here. Especially the fusion of flavors from kitchens around the world like Korean and Spanish. There is a little roast pork for my islanders, ribs to reel in the locals, and chicken for all in-between. The poke bowl combos are also legit. And they are not shy with the portions. Keep that in mind when you start adding sides. Oh! The sides. Always extra, but that’s how we roll. Something else caught our eye—because we’re thinking of you. Poke By the Pound. Basically what mom did all our lives, except make it cool. It’s only sold in person and market-priced daily at the Timeout Market Miami.
WHAT TO ORDER
We let Neil call the shots. He did not disappoint. For starters, the Garlic Furikake Chicken. Bathed in garlic glaze, this Hawaii-style fried chicken checked all the boxes. The crispy, juicy combo was bomb with the Li Hing Pineapple side that is tossed in sweet and salty spice.
We once again went with the chef’s choice and opted for the Poke + Kalua Pig Combo. Yes, you read that right. Poke and pork in one dish. This one brings on some heat, and can be served over a bed of greens or quinoa/rice. Pair this with the Apple Jicama Slaw. It’s nice and light with a bit of sweetness plus the snap from the onion and citrus dressing.
HOW TO SCORE A TABLE
