Shukette located in Chelsea is the newest Eastern Mediterranean restaurant venture by the owners of Cookshop, Vic’s, Rosie’s, and Shuka.
The overall concept ties in Eastern Mediterranean dishes with a modern-day spin by chef/partner Ayesha Nurdjaja. The menu is playful with a section titled, “when you dip, I dip, we rip” covering, of course, dips like labneh with crispy squash blossoms, honey, and chives as well as the not your average hummus. Followed by a “rip this” section that includes your breads and fluffy pitas. We specifically can’t wait to try the gozleme, a Turkish flatbread. This rendition is stuffed with potato, provolone, and parsley. Also on our list is the fried kibbeh made with braised lamb and beef, bulgar, golden raisins, and served with spicy tahini for dipping.
Save room for “the mic drop” aka dessert which is a tahini soft-serve ice cream with purple mars grapes, halva, and hazelnut.
