Ci Siamo is the newest restaurant by Danny Meyer.
The latest Union Square Hospitality Group venture is led by Chef Hillary Sterling. Formerly of Vic’s in Noho, Chef Sterling will focus on home-Italian wood-fire cooking. Incorporating a culmination of flavors found in New York City.
Fittingly so, ci siamo means “we’ve finally arrived” or “we’re here” in Italian. Needless to say, your arrival has been anticipated at Ci Siamo. And although, this is a new Manhattan West restaurant. The team behind Ci Siamo hopes to envoke that feeling of familiarity.
This classy spot will pair house-made pasta with striking cocktails and floor-to-ceiling views of the Empire State Building.
If the bar is your scene, we’d stop by for aperitivo hour. Sip on the mortoni with Campari, vodka, citrus and tonic. Munch on snacks like the mortadella and pistachio. As well as the gnooco fritto with goat gouda and the pizza bianca with anchovy, salsa verde, and aioli.
And to end with something sweet, we’d go for a scoop of gelati. One of each of the flavors, espresso stracciatella, hazelnut, and goat’s milk lemon.
If you’re stopping by for dinner and the weather is nice, sit outside.
Regardless of where you’ll be seated, we’d go for all of the above and a lot more.
Bread from that wood-fire grill sounds like a must. Order the grilled sourdough with a citrus artichoke olive oil.
Also, the cast iron focaccia seems like a dream. We imagine it will be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Move over cacio e pepe and carbonara. Ci Siamo is serving a rigationi alla gricia with guanciale (Italian cured pork cheek) with black pepper. We wouldn’t skip the tagliatelle with tomato and buffalo butter. And if you love gnocchi and pesto flavors, try the potato topini with mint, almonds, pecorino.
Looking for something on the meaty side? Try the pork milanese or the bistecca alla Fiorentina.
Bring a date, your best friend, or your parents to Ci Siamo for slow cooking focused on seasonality and the goodies: bread and pasta.
