Bakan brings authentic Mexican food, a variety of mezcal and tequila to the Wynwood scene.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Bakan located in Wynwood has a spacious half-indoor half-outdoor dining area. Come thirsty! It’s the only restaurant in South Florida with over 500 types of mezcal. It has a socially distanced 12-seat bar that works for a date night or a mezcal tasting with a close friend. Have a bonding experience eating crickets or brush up on your mezcal knowledge to impress that hot date. We’d also want to host a lively birthday celebration. In honor of that friend that can’t stop talking about how he or she wishes they were in Mexico.

WHAT TO WEAR

Did it even happen if it’s not on Insta? To match the Bakan vibe, dress casual-chic for a visit for lunch or dinner. Try not to clash with the cactuses!

THE MENU

Bakan organizes every dish on the menu with a color-coded agave plant to help you choose your mezcal pairing for dinner or lunch.

Their mezcals can be ordered as a sip or a shot. They are presented in jicaras for maximum aeration. Bakan’s flight list is divided into 4 sections. Beginner, Pro, Celebration and Premium — all with their own breadth of flavors, originating from a multitude of agave plants and regions in Mexico.

Don’t be scared if you see “leather”, “dried beef” or “clay” in the flavor list, we can promise those hints are just as yummy as the “cocoa”, “lavender” and “herbal smoked hazelnut” on the same list! Try the Amaras Cupreata (Beginner), Real Minero Largo (Pro), Real Minero Pechuga (Celebration) and Leyenda Únicos (Premium).

Bakan serves street corn off the cob, ceviche and seafood cocktail options and 3 different queso fundido as appetizers. From classic tacos to enchiladas, to moles and “off the wood-fired grill” menu options, it’s hard not to find something for everyone here, including vegetarians.

Keep an eye out for their blue-corn tortillas that are made in-house. You can see them press the tortillas one-by-one in their open-faced kitchen.

WHAT TO ORDER

To start, you can’t go wrong with Los Esquites, a fan-favorite street corn off-the-cob with lemon, chile chipotle, mayo & Cotija cheese. Other options for appetizers include the broiled Queso Fundido Chorizo with Oaxaca & Chihuahua cheese served with a side of pico de gallo.

If you’re looking to be adventurous, go big or go home and try their Tostada de Chapulines, which includes crispy grasshoppers with guacamole and Cotija cheese on house-made blue corn tortillas. Don’t be skeptical, just close your eyes and live a little.

Moving on to our main entree, the Enchiladas Suizas are a great choice for someone who is looking for something wholesome and caserito. It’s all about smothering the enchiladas with spicy salsa verde and Bakan gets it.

We’d also get some protein from the Fajita-Style “A La Leña” section of the menu. They cook red snapper, jumbo prawns, tomahawk steak and more on a wood-burning grill using oak & cherry woods. The flavor is unbeatable and you will be back for more.

COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

Bakan offers socially distanced indoor and outdoor seating, so close contact among patrons is no issue. Walking in, you will get your temperature taken and be told to wear your mask when you are not at your table. The staff also wears face masks and gloves at all times. Additionally, Bakan provides hand sanitizer for your party to use before and after your dining experience.
