WHAT TO EXPECT
Batch Southern Kitchen and tap is the ultimate destination for cheat-day eats with their signature dish being a gigantic drool-worthy plate of Sweet Tea-Brined & Fried Half Chicken with Cornbread Waffle. We visited their third location in the heart of West Palm Beach on Clematis Street. Perfect for cocktails sipping and people watching.
At Batch Southern Kitchen and tap, everything they serve is made in-house and this goes for their bar program too. The focus is on American-made spirits and house infusions, and it’s not uncommon for them to have special off-menu cocktails. Sometimes their bar team likes to work backward, beginning with the name of the cocktail and building the ingredients around a theme. The citrusy Taste of Paradise features St. Petersburg Distillery’s Oak & Palm Coconut and Spiced Rum, fresh pineapple and grapefruit juice, angostura bitters and an absinthe wash. We also loved the Roasted Pecan Whiskey Sour with Batch’s house-made pecan-Infused whiskey, sour mix, egg white and spice bitters. Sweet, rich and Southern-inspired, it is a perfect compliment to Batch’s rich menu.
WHAT TO ORDER
Let’s talk food. We started with the Jumbo Lump Crab served with a spicy mustard-forward remoulade and the creamy Deviled Eggs with creme fraiche, chives, and crispy candied bacon that adds the perfect hint of sweetness.
For our fellow mac & cheese lovers, there is an entire Mac Attack section on the menu. The fusilli pasta with smoked cheddar and gouda is smokey and super gooey.
Since we love New Orleans cuisine, we also tried the Jambalaya. Served in a piping hot cast-iron skillet the smokey and slightly spicy dish included sausage, shrimp and roasted chicken thighs. We ordered the Burnt Ends, smoked beef brisket, with a tangy root beer BBQ sauce and crispy onions, and ate them in tandem.
At this point, the food coma was creeping upon us, but we squeezed in a few bite of their Cast Iron Crumble (which can also be made gluten friendly & vegan). Featuring fresh-baked tart apples, toasted pecans, brown sugar oatmeal crumble, and topped with whiskey-caramel and house-made pecan ice cream, we started and ended our meal with pecans which seemed fitting.
All of the dishes we tried are perfect for sharing and priced moderately. Check their website and social media channels for daily specials including Whiskey Wednesday, Ladies Night and to-go family meals for four. All takeout and delivery orders placed through their website will receive a 20% gift card, valid for future use.
HOW TO SCORE A TABLE
Covid-19 Safety Measures:
Every other booth was empty offering plenty of social distancing inside Batch Southern Kitchen and tap. On Clematis Street, the city of West Palm Beach has allowed restaurants to extend their outdoor dining with additional awnings. All tables were sanitized between guests, there is a welcome station with sanitizer and they utilize QR code paperless menus.
