WHAT TO EXPECT

Burlock Coast has not lost its coastal charm since it first opened in 2016. Drawing inspiration from the Prohibition era but with an approachable beachside vibe, the oceanfront restaurant inside of the Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale is perfect for date night or weekend brunch.

Spirit lovers: Don’t be shy about asking for a tour of their Rum Room. You’ll feel like an expert loaded with fun facts about the pirate’s drink.

THE MENU

Executive Chef Paula Da Silva, who received national recognition after battling her way to the runner-up role on season five of Hell’s Kitchen, is one of Florida’s top celeb chefs. She serves food that is thoughtful and well-executed. She focuses on seafood and seasonal and supports local growers including Swank Specialty Produce in Loxahatchee and Harpke Family Farm in Davie.

WHAT TO ORDER

Burlock’s bar produces excellent aromatic and well-balanced cocktails with rum libations on the forefront.

The Rita Lavender with tequila, lavender syrup and a salty seafroth is a Burlock Coast classic. If you’re looking for a rum-based cocktail, we recommend sipping on the Guava Limoncillo with lemon, guava syrup and ginger beer.

Slow down the effects of the rum by starting with a box (yes, a box) of warmed Herb Focaccia. It has the right amount of crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.

There are certain dishes that you can always use to judge a restaurant, and the crab cake is one of them. Chef Da Silva served us a Crab Cake bursting with jumbo lump crab, cauliflower puree and tangy pickled fresno. Setting our expectations for a stellar meal, next we tried a beautiful Japanese Hamachi that complimented the sweet Guava Limoncillo.

The Seared Catch of the Day was a grilled swordfish. It’s served with a decadent ricotta gnocchi, roasted mushroom and a vibrant green malabar spinach pesto.

For our carnivorous friends, dig into the Thai Style Pork Chop with crispy confit potatoes and a slightly sweet plum jam. Bonus points for anyone that finishes the massive cut of pork in one sitting.

For dessert, don’t miss the prettiest Key Lime Pies we’ve ever seen. The individually portioned pie was an outstanding representation of Florida’s signature dessert. It comes with sugary toasted meringue slices and a flawless graham cracker crust.
