What to wear: Dress to impress, cause velvet is involved…
What to expect: Here in Miami, we are accustomed to velvet ropes. But have you ever entered a restaurant through velvet drapes? Or dined underneath a giant rhino-shaped sculpture? If not, you need to add Mandrake Miami to your list. The owners of Kiki on the River, who know a thing or two about Miami nightlife, have created a truly unforgettable space at 23rd Street and Collins Avenue. Pink lighting, a gorgeous courtyard, and an opulent bar are just a few highlights of the Mandrake experience. And the best part is, the food lives up to the aura.
The Menu: Nobu alums have developed a top-notch sushi menu featuring traditional sashimi, nigiri, and maki rolls as well as Izakaya-style small plates. In addition, there is a selection of hot and cold appetizers, rice, dumplings, and noodles. The menu also includes larger entrees (even a Wagyu steak!) and seafood platters.
What to order:
We love crispy rice, and Mandrake tops it with your choice of octopus, salmon, crab, or tuna. We had the Blue Fin Tuna Crispy Rice, seasoned with soy and scallions, but the sushi grade tuna stood on its own!
There are many sushi options, but our favorite is the Sake Nashi, with Asian pear and truffle salt for a luxurious finish.
If you’re in the mood for a roll, we recommend the signature Mandrake Roll with crab, salmon, hamachi, tuna, and a creamy jalapeno sauce.
How to score a table: Mandrake has created quite the buzz, so we definitely recommend making a reservation.
