Where to eat clean but it's still good


Say chao to drinking, carbs, dairy and sweets and hello to healthy eating.

If you’re trying to be less swollen here are some of our favorite fast-casual restaurants and takeout concepts in Miami. You can go here for healthy lunch or an easy dinner. What you need to know: Carrot Express is a healthy fast-casual restaurant drawing influence from Miami’s Latin flavors. This year we’ve seen Carrot Express boom with a total of seven locations and three more to open in CityPlace Doral, Downtown Dadeland and Brickell by 2021. It’s the perfect place for a hearty, guilt-free meal. We love their carrot cake so much but for now, we’re skipping it.
Favorite dishes: Vegan picadillo bowl and the healthy burger bowl.

Cuisine: Korean
What you need to know: 2 Korean Girls is a new delivery and takeout only pop-up founded by sisters Jennifer and Michele Kaminski. With the help of their mom, Chom “Sunny” Kaminski, a talented cook with a line of Korean sauces and seasonings sold at specialty grocers throughout the United States, they’ve created Bibimbap bowls and more Korean specialties. 

You obviously need to try their Bibimbap. This Korean staple comes with rice, meat, vegetables and a runny egg. It will fit your plant-based lifestyles and gluten and paleo diets. You can also build your Custom Bowl which will include a choice of 1 base, 1 protein, 1 vegetable and 3 toppings with a choice of sauce including Gochujang, Sesame Dressing, Funky Sauce or 2KG Sauce (their secret sauce).
Favorite dishes: Kimchi fried rice and O.B. (Original Bibimbap)

Cuisine: Caribbean
What you need to know: Got to love Auntie Drea’s one-liner, “Your favorite Caribbean comfort foods pero vegan!” The crazy thing is that you wouldn’t even know it’s vegan if we didn’t just tell you. The flavors in Auntie Drea’s food are explosive and wholesome. Our favorites include the ropa vieja with Jackfruit and banana blossoms simmered in salsa criolla, served with brown rice quinoa, black beans, and sweet plantains. Don’t skip her soups. The Coco Curry is rich in flavor and made with sweet potato, rainbow potatoes, mushrooms, chickpeas and spinach in a rich coconut curry broth.
Favorite dishes: Abuela’s ropa vieja and the coco curry

What you need to know: Krüs Kitchen is a new and elevated delivery and takeout only concept. They use seasonal and local produce from farms like Tiny Farm in Homestead and create simple recipes that let you taste every ingredient in each dish. It’s really magical what they have done.

You can tell that their chef, Sebastian Vargas comes from a fine-dining background. He is able to re-shape his fine-dining technique and craft into a sustainable to-go bowl. Krüs also has a to-go market. They carry homemade garlic mayo, cilantro chimichurri, turmeric honey dressing and more.
Favorite dishes: Coconut rice bowl, burrata, quinoa salad

What you need to know: Pura Vida is the sort of place you would go to after a workout class or grab a quick lunch with your work bestie. All locations have a sand color aesthetic and make you want to wear your baby blue matching work out outfit. Do it. The very Miami-based concept has locations in Miami Beach, Miami Design District, Edgewater, South Beach, Coral Gables at the University of Miami (temporarily closed) and West Palm Beach. Pura Vida plans to open three more locations across the region in the coming months in Aventura, Bay Harbour and Las Olas.
Favorite dishes: Jen’s herb salad and blue majik açaí bowl

Menu includes: smoothies, superfood arepas, noritos (a healthier version of a burrito, wrapped in a roasted nori paper) and more
What you need to know: Manna Life is all about superfoods, locally sourced and plant-based ingredients. They have a giant mural highlighting the superfoods that they use throughout their menu. These superfoods include spirulina, chlorella, maca, goji berries and more. Everything you will find at Manna is organic, free of gluten, artificial flavors, additives, refined sugars or GMO-S. We love their soups of the day and their superfood arepas. They are made from fresh organic yellow corn, chia, flax seeds, sea salt & coconut oil and are never fried, just baked.
Favorite dishes: Superfood arepa with veggies and pesto and the carrot basil soup (if you’re lucky)

What you need to know: Poke OG currently has three locations in Wynwood’s 1-800 Lucky food hall, a stand-alone store in Downtown and Fort Lauderdale. Our favorite is the Salmon OG (hold the fried onions) with salmon, edamame, avocado, jalapeno, masago, tossed in Yuzu Kosho dressing. Served over Zucchini Noodles with a Siracha drizzle.

Menu includes: spinach pies, fresh juices, pita sandwiches and salads
What you need to know: It’s a classic healthy Coconut Grove spot. We’re obsessed with the green sauce and we’d put it on anything. The vegetables taste fresh and we like their laidback-im-not-trying-to-be-something-im-not vibes.
Favorite menu dish and drink: Hummus Pita, Fresh Apple Juice
