The teams behind Phuc YeaCafé KushBlvd Bae’sVagabond Motel and La Placita have joined forces to present Finding MiMo. This unique neighborhood effort will guide your exploration of Miami’s Upper Eastside neighborhood. Beginning on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, guests visiting any of the participating restaurants can say the catchphrase: “Where’s Dory” to their server and receive one complimentary cocktail.

Omakase restaurant, Sushi by Bou located inside the Gianni Versace Suite at the former Versace Mansion, is now offering a Bou-gie Brunch experience.

The 17-course brunch is available for up to eight diners and priced at $125 per person.TheBou-gie Brunch will be offered on Saturday and Sunday from 12PM to 4PM inside of the G-Lounge speakeasy.

The menu includes handcrafted nigiri sushi ranging from Hamachi yellowtail, Bluefin tuna, marinated Ikura, Uni sea urchin, and fatty tuna to Wagyu and Uni surf and turf and Hokkaido scallop topped with charcoal salt.  Mimosas, Bellinis and a full bar menu are also available. If you’re craving sake they have a sake vending machine where you can sample a glass of three different sakes. Sake selections are also available by the glass or bottle. 

Reservations must be made via OpenTable and paid in full at the time of booking. Seats are released one month in advance.

A wood-fired restaurant from Brooklyn opens in Wynwood

Shelter, the wood-fired restaurant from Williamsburg, is now open in Wynwood. The vibe is “hunting lodge chic” and the menu draws inspiration from the creator’s Argentinian and Italian roots. Dishes include crispy artichokes with pecorino cheese dip; Parillada for Two; a variety of pizzas (also available gluten free); empanadas and more. The empanadas are supposably delicious and include flavor such as BBQ piggy served with coleslaw; humita – sweet corn, scallion, nutmeg and bechamel and mushroom, kale and goat cheese, and more.

The bar program will center around whiskies, scotches and bourbons. Shelter also carries a beer list emphasizing local and/or independent brewers, wine and craft cocktails.

French-Mediterranean restaurant, Le Zoo Bal Harbour, has added seasonal menu items to their dinner menu.

Dishes include crown Russian osetra caviar, Kumamoto oysters, Dover sole meuniere and lobster frites, which we really need in our lives. Le Zoo’s lobster frites is marinated with garlic-herb butter and priced at $59. The dinner menu is offered Monday through Sunday from 4 PM to 10 PM.   

A NEW TAKEOUT SUSHI CONCEPT

The team behind Azabu Miami Beach, The Den and Lolo’s Surf Cantina, has launched BUBUSAN. BUBUSAN is a colorful Japanese takeout and delivery concept focusing on omakase boxes, onigiri, vegan options and Magic Pizza.

The 8-inch, crispy dough Magic Pizza is their signature item and comes in three different flavors: salmon, tuna and avocado.

The omakase boxes range in size and are between $14 and $42. We’re hyped to try their onigiri (Japanese rice balls stuffed with different proteins) like the spicy hamachi with Serrano pepper and truffle ponzu.

You’ve definitely heard us talk about E&P DMPLNGS. If you haven’t, read THIS. Chef Evan Burgess and Chef Pedro Mederos are wrapping up their non-traditional dim sum pop-up inside of Threefold Cafe in South Miami and you’ll be sorry if you don’t try it.

Their Thursday – Saturday pop-up menu includes Beef Shank Dumpling, Pork Belly Bao, Wings seasoned with furikake and their take on a “buffalo sauce” and more. Regret everything this week except not going to E&P DMPLNGS for their last hurrah on March 27th.

Abba Telavivian Kitchen is a new restaurant in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood by hospitality entrepreneurs Omer Horev and Sam Gorenstein. The cozy Telavivian cafe has indoor seating and and outdoor terrace. Expect a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean menu that draws influence from Gorenstein’s Syrian background and Horev’s Moroccan roots.

Currently the restaurant is offering breakfast and lunch with dinner on its way. Breakfast pastries include za’atar-lemon croissants, tahini walnut banana bread; and Burekas – an Israeli puff pastry, stuffed with savory fillings including spinach & Bulgarian feta and sweet versions such as pistachio & dulce de leche. Additionally, they will be serving Shakshuka (also available for lunch) and their take on a typical Israeli breakfast plate (Abba’s TLV Breakfast) that comes with house-made arak citrus cured salmon, two eggs, labneh, cured olives, shuk salad, hummus, pickled onions and a toasted Jerusalem bagel.

The lunch menu will include Salatim (“little salads”), and pitas stuffed with falafel and lamb kofta and Jerusalem bagels (longer and skinnier than their American counterparts) – served open face and topped with avocado, egg and feta cheese as well as hummus, arugula, tomato, and tahini. Miami’s newest bakery is hosting a special pop-up brunch on Sunday, March 14th and it’s 90s themed so you know we’ll be there. Flour & Weirdough is teaming up with wine director/co-owner Karina Iglesias of  NIU Kitchen and Arson; Veronica Slabicki of Arash Selects to pour delicious natural wines with a brunch spread by Chef Renata Ferraro. The menu is à la carte and will feature dishes such as the grilled chorizo board, croissant sliders, and al pastor danishes. The Shelborne South Beach is bringing back the Miami institution, David‘s Cafe Cafecito. The Miami Beach go-to spot for coffee and Cuban cuisine closed on Alton Road due to COVID 19 – until now. They had been around for over 40 years and we’re happy to report that David’s Café has opened a family-owned pop-up in the Shelborne South Beach lobby. Expect cafe con leche, guava pastries, croquetas and so much more. David’s Cafecito pop-up is open seven days a week from 7 AM – 7 PM.

FORMER KYU FOUNDERS HAVE A NEW SPOT

Former KYU founders have a new concept in Wynwood called BUYA. The menu draws inspiration from Japanese Izakayas, focusing on drinks and street food. It’s casual and great for shared plate experiences.  They’ve recently launched a brunch menu that includes Wagyu Steak + Fried Egg, Sweet Potato Hash and Karaage Chicken + Waffles. We can’t believe it’s been 10 years since Wood Tavern opened up in the heart of Wynwood. So much has changed since then. We remember the days when we would hang by the outdoor bleachers drinking and eating tacos. It was chill, unpretentious—the essence of Wynwood.

The Wood team made the announcement on March 1st, letting their followers know on via Instagram that the Last Backyard Boogie would be held on Sunday, March 14th. Miami is devastated and contemplating, “What will Wynwood without Wood?!” Wood was home to many, a truly special place with good people. It won’t be the same. Pay your respects.

MIAMI’S OLDEST BAR IS BACK

Tobacco Road, Miami’s oldest bar is back with a little twist. Dating back to pre-Prohibition, Tobacco Road had closed its original doors in the fall of 2014.

On March 1st, just a couple of doors down, where the original River Oyster Bar once stood, is now the new home of Tobacco Road’s tribute. And of course, Matt Kuscher of Kush Hospitality Group is behind this comeback. We can’t wait to be back and can bet on the Kush Hospitality Group doing Tobacco Road justice.

Matt commented that he’s not trying to recreate Tobacco Road, “you can’t replicate something with so much history. This is a tribute to the spirit of that place, a spot people can come to eat, drink, reminisce and indulge in a little nostalgia. And have some fun in the process.”

Open for lunch, dinner and delivery daily, the menu at Tobacco Road by Kush includes wings with Old Bay- and sofrito-rubbed and New Mexican chiliBBQ chicken nachos and bang bang shrimp. Also on the menu will be the Death Burger with jack cheese, sauteed onions, jalapenos, spicy mayo and sriracha and the Cracker Cowboy Chicken Sandwich – BBQ chicken, jack cheese, slaw and BBQ sauce.

The cocktails are very Miami. They include Dan F*cking Marino (a nod to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, which was shot in Miami), consisting of Montelobos, Campari and Vermouth; Sh*t Miami Girls Say, Kush’s “bubble gum” version of a Cosmo; This Ain’t the Real Tobacco Road, a take on the infamous Moose Juice (complete with free souvenir cup!) and Pinga Colada – Havana Club rum and Coco Lopez with a provocative garnish.

The bar also has a bar section called Shit*y & Mini – a lineup of dive bar classic cocktails such as Beam & Coke and Scotch & Soda served with a mini liquor bottle flipped upside down in the glass.

Chef and owner Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House has opened an old-school Italian concept with a relaxed ambiance in Coral Gables named after his son Luca. Luca Osteria is now open for dinner on Giralda Avenue. We checked out the menu and are feeling their cocktail and aperitivo vibe with elderflower mint spritz and more.

From the dinner menu we’re looking forward to trying the Patate Fritter Potato with black truffle salt, egg yolk and parmigiano, Tomato ’Nduja with grilled bread, fennel, oregano and Calabrian pepper and the Pasta al Limone with tagliatelle pasta, Parmigiano Reggiano and whole lemon. For dessert, a little birdie told us to get the Italian ice cream sandwich pistachio and chocolate.

Fooq’s to relocate & opens a pizza concept

David and brother Joshua Foulquier have announced that Downtown favorite Fooq’s will be transforming into Eleventh Street Pizza on March 4th. Fooq’s will eventually be back as they look for a larger space to relocate.

Eleventh Street’s Pie-maker is Aquiles Bisogni from Salerno, a port city southeast of Naples, Italy who previously worked at the original Joe’s Pizza on Carmine Street in New York’s West Village for 29 years.

At Eleventh Street, the dough is fermented for 48-hours, then hand-pulled and hand-tossed to form round crisp pies, and two styles of square pies, a Grandma and a Sicilian. Pie flavors include The Brooklyn Cheese with sauce on top and Pepperoni & Hot Honey. They will also have a rotating weekly pie special such as the Fooq’s Pie inspired by the original concept’s Middle Eastern flavors topped with braised lamb, tahini garlic white sauce.

The menu will also include two salads featuring produce sourced from Miami-based, Urban Oasis Project, the Spicy Caesar with little gem lettuce and the Escarole Walnut. Eleventh Street Pizza will also have non-pizza items such as Fooq’s Signature Meatballs made with Florida grass-fed beef and served with the Fooq’s tomato sauce. Weekly subs that will rotate every Wednesday include Spicy Vodka Chicken Parm, Meatball, and Classic Italian.

In the opening weeks, a limited number of pies will be available to order directly online via TOCK for curbside pickup. Eleventh Street Pizza will be open Wednesday through Friday from 5 PM to 10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 10 PM. For more information about Eleventh Street Pizza click HERE.
