Cochon 555 is now a carryout event

A much-anticipated annual culinary event with stops in cities across the United States, COCHON555 will return to Miami Tuesday, September 22- Sunday, September 27, 2020, as CARRYOUT WITH COCHON555 presented by Citi, a virtual and interactive feast featuring five of the city’s top talents. Across five different nights, South Florida’s line up of chefs includes  Michael Lewis (KYU), Michael Schwartz (Amara at Paraiso), Janine Booth & Jeff McGinnis (Root & Bone, Stiltsville), Giorgio Rapicavoli (Eating House) and Brad Kilgore (Ember) –will conduct “virtual dinners” via Zoom, offering participants the opportunity to partake in an intimate, interactive dining experience, complete with all of the ingredients necessary to enjoy a pork-centric meal including wine and cocktails.

This year, 80% of proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the participating restaurants. The virtual event will be fun and interactive in a Live ZOOM class which will be approximately 45 minutes long. Tickets range from $115/person to $200 for two. Click HERE to purchase your tickets.

Restaurant: Motek Café

Hungries, please stop what you’re doing and go check out Motek. This relatively new Israeli Café is offering lunch and dinner from 11 AM – 9 PM, Monday through Saturday. Although they are only offering curbside pick up and delivery, the food will speak for itself even when its to-go.  Locate in downtown, Miami, inside of the Seybold, Motek is a chef-driven concept by Einat Admony, who is well-known in New York and Washington DC for Taim Falafel, her beloved falafel chain, as well as Balaboosta, her fine-dining restaurant in Manhattan. She’sbringing thoughtful Israeli dishes to Miami that include labneh with zaatar, kosher potato boureka, shakshuka baked eggs, beef hummus, crispy chicken schnitzel and more. Click HERE to order.

Sushi Kit ($45) serves two and includes:

  • 4 pieces of nigiri

Restaurant: Sonny’s Someday Steakhouse by Jaguar Sun at Lot 6

Lot 6 in Little River has been home to Jaguar Sun for a while now. It’s one of our favorite outdoor dining experiences and this week it’s becoming Sonny’s Someday Steakhouse.

The menu covers steakhouse classics (with a Jaguar Sun twist) like a shrimp cocktail, Parker House rolls with smoked butter, and Ceasar salad with 30-month parmesan. They’ve got the meats with their 70-Day NY Strip, aged Duroc Pork Chop, and Scotch-aged Tomahawk Ribeye. We want all the sauces. Choose from their Bearnaise, Taleggio, Potato Butter, Green Peppercorn, Salsa Verde, Piquillo Condiment. Feeling regal yet? Wait until you see their cocktail menu. They have a whole section dedicated to Martinis and Manhattans. And of course, there will be vino.

Chef Albert Cabrera is bringing coal-fired Cuban cuisine to Brickell City Center. The menu offers large-format meats, rice dishes, and vegetables and seafood, all cooked with charcoal. Expect dishes such as their mini Caja China served at your table with Masitas de puerco, black mojo and shaved onions.

Marabú’s ambiance is inspired by cities like Camagüey and Pinar del Rio. Its interiors embody the Cuban suave and elegance that makes the island so alluring. Taking center stage, a swanky Havana-inspired bar will serve an array of handpicked traditional Cuban cocktails with a modern twist. The restaurant will also feature an outdoor pergola, reminiscent of “el campo,” to anchor a lively al fresco dining scene.

For a limited time, Chef Michael Beltran and Chef Justin Flit’s beloved Coconut Grove eatery will be serving up summertime seafood offerings Friday – Sunday only. This includes a daily selection of oysters; fried clams with pepperoncini, fennel pollen and tartar sauce; lobster roll with Meyer lemon aioli and dill; smoked fish dip and more. Hours are Fridays 5PM – 10PM and Saturday/Sunday Noon to 10 PM.

This Saturday, August 8th, Beaker & Gray is popping up at The Citadel rooftop with a curated cocktail menu for the entire month. Beaker & Gray Bar Director Ben Potts is at the helm of this pop-up, initially looking to place his out of work team members temporarily during the recent closures of indoor dining, Potts is elated about this new community partnership with The Citadel. “We are very excited to partner with a great venue to serve one of Miami’s growing neighborhoods. The space is beautiful and offers guests a very safe atmosphere to enjoy great cocktails and delicious cuisine.” – Ben Potts

The takeover will showcase Beaker & Gray’s craft cocktail bar program with new rooftop tropical desert vibes. You can look forward to fresh ingredients, house-made products, and rotating frozen cocktails. Cocktails will focus on refreshing options such as “Bomb-Bae” with Bombay Sapphire gin, camomile-infused Martini Ambrato, tonic water, and fresh citrus, as well as more spirituous options like the “Maduro Fashioned” with Bacardi Cuatro, maduro reduction, and cafecito bitters. Guests can enjoy a full dining experience on the rooftop curated by 8 of Miami’s top innovative kitchens.

The pop-up will offer weekly programming on the Rooftop such as, Wine Down Wednesday, Locals Night on Thursdays, and Brunch on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The Rooftop will be open Wednesday-Friday 4 PM-Close, Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM- Close and will be serviced by members of the Beaker & Gray team.

A member of Food & Wine magazine’s “Best New Chefs” class of 2020 and a James Beard Award nominee, chef Niven Patel will add two more restaurants to his stellar Aya Hospitality lineup (Ghee, Erba) with Mamey and Orno, both set to open at the much-anticipated THēsis Hotel Miami in Coral Gables. The first to market, Mamey, is scheduled to open Tuesday, August 11, 2020. The vibrant and island-minded concept will incorporate a fun cocktail program by Miami’s esteemed collective Bar Lab.

Mamey will open with dinner, seven nights a week. The menu will highlight fruits, vegetables and herbs from Rancho Patel, his two-acre farm in Homestead. Dishes to look out for include the Yellowfin Tuna Tostones with tomato sofrito, scallion and piquillo pepper aioli; Bahamian Conch Fritters, served with cilantro tartar sauce and roasted peppers; Corn & Callaloo EmpanadasVietnamese Caesar Salad with opal basil, Parmigiano, crispy shallots, sesame, anchovy croutons; Mushroom Summer Roll; and Farm Greens Salad with hearts of palm, macadamia nuts, cara orange, radish and mango vinaigrette, among others. Larger dishes include the Creole Mahi or Crispy Chicken Sandwich dressed with plantain BBQ sauce to Trini Roti with curried chickpeas, spinach, red onion and tamarind chutney and Brussels Sprouts Pad Thai with farm egg. Prices range from $8-$36.

In collaboration with Bar Lab, Mamey’s cocktail menu will overflow with fresh, flavorful concoctions with an island flair. Delectable libations in the works include the Mamey Swizzle, a blend of light rum, Chef’s chai tea, coconut milk and mamey as well as the Jerk Sandia, a zesty mixture of Mezcal, watermelon, lemon balm, pomegranate and jerk spice.

Award-winning British Chef Justin Brown introduces The Chippy pop-up at Balan’s Bar & Brasserie in Mary Brickell Village, now serving a hand-crafted selection of classic English dishes that will quench the palate of those craving an authentic menu of home-cooked cuisine that goes well beyond the bangers. Classic Fish and Chips is Chef Brown’s signature dish, recreated from his own recipe, and cooked with a homemade beer batter and served with lemon and fries—offering a choice of either Haddock or Cod—both made to melt in your mouth and remind you of your last visit to a British fish and chips shop. Expect local Wynwood Beer Battered Fish wrapped in newspaper, authentic homemade chips using the best quality Idaho Potatoes, and a squeeze of tangy lemon for that essential aftertaste. Additional menu items under the Meat & Chips option, include Battered Proper Pork Sausage, Battered Bell & Evens Chicken Strips, or an 8oz Wagyu Cheeseburger Salad, served with tomato and red onion.
