Orno, the new restaurant from the folks of Ghee & Mamey is opening on October 14, 2021.

Chef Niven Patel’s opening of Orno in Coral Gables marks his third restaurant in Miami. This modern American restaurant with a wood-fired oven focuses on ingredients sourced from his farm in Homestead, Florida. The Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef of 2020 will be incorporating 35-plus varieties of seasonal greens, fruits, and vegetables from Rancho Patel on the menu.

Located inside the THesis Hotel, the restaurant centers around an open kitchen with marble bar seating and greens hanging from the ceiling. The vibe is laid-back. But you can certainly dress up if you’re feeling fancy.

The Library inside of Orno is meant to be a private dining room for up to 20 guests. Make sure you check it out.

And catch the neon sign reading “Knowledge is the food of the soul.”

The Library purposely ties into the cocktail menu titled “literary classics”. Drinks include the Holly Golightly ($16)a proper cocktail mixed with St. Germaine, and a lavender bitter-soaked sugar cube topped with champagne. Or the Master Copperfield ($14) made with Wray and Nephew Jamaican Overproof Rum torched with lemon peel and sugar, Hennessy Cognac, black tea, and lemon. Honoring Truman Capote’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and Charles Dickens’ “David Copperfield.”

On to the food because we know why you’re here.

Orno’s seasonal menu offers small and large plates, wood-fired pizzas, and veggie-focused sides. Small plates include Roasted Summer Squash ($14), squash blossom served with herb yogurt, sumac, and toasted almonds. If you love seafood, try the Red Snapper Crudo ($17), topped with mango, Thai basil, smoked olive oil, and Espelette peppers.

For those that love pasta, try the Rigatoni ($22) served with tomato ragù, sun-dried tomatoes, and basil butter. Or go for the Bucatini ($21). Consisting of Sunray Venus Clams served with a shallot confit and Calabrian chili peppers. There’s a lot more we can’t wait to try. But for now, we won’t be skipping the Beef Tartare ($20), with smoked chili oil, pickled black trumpet, and egg yolk, or the Wood Oven Roasted Black Grouper ($34), with marinated butter beans and cascabel chili.
