Expect American classics turned fancy.

Chef Benjamin Murray and chef-restaurateur Michael Kaplan have joined forces once again to open up their second concept Mimi’s. Their first restaurant, Benh Mi, started at Murray’s apartment in Miami during the pandemic. It’s now a Vietnamese-inspired banh mi sandwich shop in Española Way with the crispiest chicken tenders we’ve ever had.

But now, onto Mimi’s, a nickname given to Kaplan by his nieces and nephews. This all-day cafe and bistro concept is located in Edgewater. It welcomes Hungries for breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner. Indoor seating is available. But we want to sit outside. The tropical outdoor patio and bar give us tasteful Versace vibes. It also makes us think of Birdcage. Don’t ask. Either way, we’re here for it.

The menu is inspired by classic American comfort food with a fine-dining spin.

Chef Benjamin Murray, who was previously chef de cuisine of Pao at the Faena has created the menu at Mimi’s.

Breakfast will include the Drippy Egg sandwich with organic sunny-side-up eggs, bacon, sharp cheddar, and chipotle mayo, on Zach the Baker brioche. As well as the Herb Cured Salmon Lox with heirloom tomatoes, seasonal “capers,” onion, and chive cream cheese on an everything bagel. If you’re looking for a breakfast side, try the Crispy Smashed Potatoes with a garlic confit.

Lunch is a mix of light and heartier dishes. But we’re going for The Burger, smashed style with American cheese, sherry caramelized onions, and a house-made smoked pickle mayo (um, yum).

Breakfast and lunch will be an order at the counter operation. While full service will be available for happy hour and dinner.

From 4 PM to 7 PM we’ll pass by for happy hour. Their bites menu includes Oysters with a horseradish mignonette and Pan Con Tomate with grated tomato, garlic, and Arbequina olive oil. Followed by dinner with the Binchotan-Grilled Steak & Egg with a caramelized shallot chimichurri, fried egg, and alligator pepper. And then the one we think will quickly become a fan favorite: Mimi’s Chicken and Eggs. This dish comes with Ossetra Caviar, house-made creme fraiche, farro miso toast, and Murray’s delicious fried chicken.

Mimi’s is located at 2501 Biscayne Boulevard. It will be open every Wednesday through Sunday, from 7 AM to 10 PM. Coffee and pastries will be available from 7 AM to 8 AM. Breakfast will be available from 8 AM to 11 AM. Lunch will be open from 11 AM. to 4 PM. And dinner will be available from 6 PM to close.
