REEF known for its ghost kitchens providing food delivery around Miami is hosting getREEF Night Market, an outdoor food bazaar. From September 14 – 26th, stop by for a lantern-lit food hall experience with street-style bites and a full bar. Local vendors include Timon Balloo’s Balloo Wallah Indian Street Food, Michael Schwartz Genuine Burger, Dwayne Wade and Udonis Haslem’s 800° Pizza, Truffalo Wing Shop, and Alla Vodka Shop. Chef Michael Beltran and Ariete Hospitality Group are reinventing the diner concept and adding a Cuban twist to it. Back in 2019 Chug’s Diner opened as a pop-up in Coconut Grove. It has now re-opened as a permanent and expanded full-service diner with a modern-day ventanita. 

The indoor and outdoor concept will be overseen by chef Monika Dominguez serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week with a limited breakfast menu available ‘til close. 

Unlike most diners, Chug’s features a full bar with a cocktail list created by Beverage Director Tom Lasher-Walker. Drinks include the Diner Old Fashioned, apple brandy, bourbon, maple, cinnamon, angostura & orange bitters; Guava Gimlet, gin, guava, lime; the Hemingway Margarita, blanco tequila, Pamplemousse, orange, lime, salt and more.

Breakfast includes the Salmon Tostada with Cuban bread, whipped cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onions, capers and dill; Quiche with maduros, bacon, caramelized onions, mixed greens; Chug’s classic Cast-Iron Pancake, slow-cooked in clarified butter, served with warm butter and maple syrup; pastelitos by Pastelito Papi and more.

For lunch and dinner, expect The Frita with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, mojo ketchup, yuca papitas; Foie Gras Peanut Butter & Jelly Buñuelo; Media Noche Pierogi; Meatloaf with tamarind ketchup, peas & carrots and whipped mashed potatoes; Pollo a la Milanesa with prosciutto, tomato, parmesan, maduros, pickled green tomato; and more. Oh and don’t forget the sides. They’ll have Yuca Bites, Seasoned Fries, Rice & Black Beans, and more.

Miami’s Asian Food Hall, 1-800-Lucky will be collaborating with Night Owl Cookies for a one-time-only special edition fortune cookie. The cookie will be available at 1-800-Lucky until September 17th for $3. The signature cookie is coated with a red vanilla glaze, topped with black sprinkles and a golden fortune cookie.

Boia De, one of our favorite restaurants, will be hosting its 3rd Annual Chilean Independence Day celebration on Saturday, September 18 honoring co-owner Luciana (Luci) Giangrandi’s Chilean roots. Boia De will have an all Chilean by-the-glass wine list, traditional Chilean dish specials, and some special surprises for friends and family during dinner. There’s a new Asian-inspired restaurant that will get vibe-y and we’re sure you’ll want to check it out. Sushi Fly Chicken is a Groot Hospitality concept tapping the talent of Tony Mai, who serves as SFC’s Executive Sushi Chef, and Ryan Lithgow, SFC’s Chef de Cuisine. 

The entrance of SFC looks like a takeout restaurant. However, behind the takeout counter’s sliding doors you won’t find the kitchen but a sleek restaurant lounge with an animé and manga mural serving as the backdrop of the neon and steel-clad bar. 

Menu highlights include Lobster Prawn Toast, Peking Duck Bao Dumplings, mixed Nigiri Platters, and fried chicken served in Southern, Thai, or Korean styles. Also on the menu is a 4-course Chef’s Omakase, starting at $48. If you’re stopping by for drinks count on DJ sets and a selection of premium Japanese whiskeys, Yuzu Margarita, and a Szechuan-Peppercorn Lychee Martini.

Celebrate Miami Beach Pride Week a lo Italiano

Osteria Morini, an NYC restaurant by the Altamarea Group at the Kimpton Palomar is hosting a special Groovy Brunch: Pride Edition hosted by local drag queen Jasmine Pryce Lords with live performances from Coco Lords and Kahtya Tehnsion on Saturday, September 11th from 11 AM to 3 PM. 

Come enjoy Osteria Morini classics like the rigatoni with wild mushroom ragù, rosemary, and black truffle Moliterno and Bomboloni ricotta doughnuts as well as unique Negroni cocktails (including Negroni granita!) on the Collins Canal before heading up to the Sweet Spot Pride event on the rooftop.

Even if you’re not Mexican, we think you should pencil in Mexican Independence Day, September 16th at Bakan. This Wynwood spot known for its regional Mexican flavors and ample mezcal and tequila offerings will be serving Chiles En Nogada, a seasonal Mexican dish enjoyed by Mexican families from September – November. This traditional dish is prepared with roasted poblano chile, stuffed with slow-cooked pork, almonds, pecans, dried and fresh fruit, herbs, and served with a walnut and cherry wine cream sauce.
