This Michelin-starred restaurant is bringing sushi goodness to Miami Beach in a modern and traditional way.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Kosushi has made its way from Brazil to Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood this summer. Its São Paulo location has been included in Michelin’s annual culinary guide from 2015 to 2019. And we’re excited that they chose Miami as their first international location.
Chef Koshoji is bringing Japanese and Brazilian flavors to the menu with a mix of traditional and Japanese-inspired dishes. From sushi and sashimi to hot and cold dishes, Kosushi has you covered. If you’re looking for a cocktail, pair your meal with some Japanese sake and/or whiskey from their exceptional collection.
We can’t talk about Kosushi without getting into the details of the restaurant interior. Award-winning Brazilian architect Arthur Casas, has created a sleek space that will take you to Japan. Make sure to look up and take in the honeycomb-like wood ceiling structure.
Between the venue, technique-driven food, and impeccable service Kosushi needs to be on your list.
WHAT TO WEAR
The high ceilings and bathroom are beautifully designed. If you didn’t post a pic of the interiors, did you even go? Dress casual-chic for lunch or dinner with a friend or even to by yourself. Sit at the bar and enjoy the sushi-making action.
Chef Koshoji brings a curated menu with signature cuts and creations of sushi, sashimi, and rolls. They focus on technique, fresh, high-quality fish while creating innovative dishes.
Dine-in or order takeout from Tuesday-Sunday. Oh and every Wednesday Kosushi hosts a Kaiseki Style Omakase. This multi-course Japanese dinner is available from 6 PM to 12 PM where Hungries can enjoy a 7 to 12-course tasting menu.
WHAT TO ORDER
While you look through the menu start with the Grilled Shishito Peppers. The menu is divided into four main sections: Signature Sushi, Maki, Hot Dishes, and Cold Dishes. Come open to taste a little bit of everything.
Order the Salmon Truffle Roll with whitefish and avocado. Don’t miss the Miso Seabass Skewers. The 24-hour marinated sea bass melts in your mouth.
A very traditional dish featured in Kosushi São Paulo is the Salmon Dyo Ikura Quail Egg and we couldn’t miss that! A thin slice of salmon wrapped around a small rice ball topped with quail egg yolk and Ikura roe. When you try this and the yolk explodes in your mouth and the combination of flavors takes your experience to another level. We also loved the torched Salmon Truffle nigiri with truffle oil, lemon zest, and pink salt. If you need more sashimi in your life, go for the Scallop Black Salt with lemon-infused oil.
Craving something crispy? The Crispy Rice Tuna/Salmon Bites topped with the creamy fish tartar make for the perfect crunch and smooth texture in your mouth. Still hungry for more? Order the Toro or Salmon Belly Tartare which is topped with caviar and a side of taro chips.
