The Hungry Post has found the city’s best ceviche thanks to:

After a month-long ceviche safari through Miami, visiting over 20 restaurants, and trying more than 60 ceviches, The Hungry Post has found the city’s best (in our opinion).

We explored iconic institutions, hidden huequitos, and a new generation of Peruvian restaurants guided by our audience and a serious craving for the best ceviche.

Our mission was clear: uncover Miami’s top ceviche with the help of a panel of experts.

From The Hungry Post team, we brought in two seasoned judges. Gaby Valdano, content creator, and Andrea Becerra, Head of Content, recently returned from a trip to Lima and now know what it takes to find the best ceviche in Miami. Joining them was Carlos Flores, Mexican chef and owner of Flour & Weirdoughs in Key Biscayne, adding culinary depth and perspective.

Many, many limoncitos were sacrificed for this journey. So, how did we do it?

We showed up unannounced. We paid for every bill. And we judged each ceviche based on the quality of ingredients, the precision of the fish cut, the balance of texture, depth of flavor, and creative spin.

Here are our top 5 ceviches in Miami — plus one standout honorable mention.

Honorable mention:

NUNA

Neighborhood: Brickell
Address: Four Seasons Hotel Miami, 1435 Brickell Ave
Dish: Bluefin Tuna Ceviche

Nuna, located inside the Four Seasons in Brickell, deserves a shoutout for its exceptional Bluefin Tuna Ceviche. The restaurant, led by Chef Jaime Pesaque (ranked No. 39 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants with his Lima restaurant Mayta), has taken over the Edge Steak & Bar space.

During our journey, we found that tuna ceviche is surprisingly hard to nail — but this one was an immediate favorite. The quality of the fish was undeniable, and the flavor hit all the right notes. Dressed in a shoyu ponzu leche de tigre with layers of wasabi, citrus emulsion, roasted avocado, and crispy nori, it was complex, balanced, and nailed the texture game.

Our Top 5 Ceviches in Miami:

5. FRANCESCO

Neighborhood: Coral Gables
Address278 Miracle Mile
Dish: Ceviche Chalaco

Sometimes simplicity wins. That’s why the Ceviche Chalaco from Francesco in Coral Gables earned its spot. Francesco’s story begins in 1984 in the port of Callao, Peru, and that tradition has made its way to Miami.

Their ceviche uses lenguado (flounder), a premium fish rarely seen in Miami ceviches. While all three versions we tried were excellent, the Chalaco — with thinly sliced octopus, delicate flounder, and a fiery rocoto leche de tigre — was the standout.

4. JARANA PERUVIAN CUISINE & PISCO BAR

Neighborhood: Aventura
Address19505 Biscayne Blvd suite 5150
Dish: Cebiche Caliente de Camarones

We didn’t expect to be blown away by ceviche at Esplanade at Aventura — but we were. At Jarana, a Peruvian restaurant from the team behind La Mar, we had our first hot ceviche, and it changed everything.

The Ceviche Caliente de Camarones features grilled, head-on prawns with ají panca, ají amarillo, chicha de jora, and leche de tigre. It’s hearty and soulful, with just the right amount of complexity to keep us on our toes.

3. BARRA CALLAO

Neighborhood: North Miami Beach
Address: 17034 W Dixie Hwy
Dish: Vuelve a la Vida

We went to Barra Callao in Aventura not once, but twice. This tiny ceviche bar, with about 10 seats, is run by Chef Anthony Verastegui and serves “chalaco”-style ceviche inspired by the port of Callao. One of the things we love most is that their menu changes daily, depending on the fish they’re able to source.

The Vuelva la Vida seafood cocktail ceviche stood out — marinated in lime juice and homemade leche de tigre, served with sweet potato, Peruvian corn, and onions. What pushed it into our top three was the exceptional freshness of the fish and the addition of Hokkaido uni, which added creaminess and umami to an already strong dish.

2. ATOMICA

Neighborhood: Design District
AddressMIA Market, 140 NE 39th St #241
Dish: Cebiche Blanco

Atomica, located inside MIA Market, is the kind of place that gets us genuinely excited about the future of Miami’s culinary scene. Chefs Carmen Ibarra and Javier Cussato have teamed up to deliver bold, eclectic flavors from a tiny kitchen — and they’re crushing it.

Their short menu is packed with standouts, so we recommend going for their full menu. But if you have to pick one ceviche, go with the Atomica Cebiche Blanco. It features a sunchoke leche de tigre, charred sweet potato, yellow corn nuts, and artichoke chips. It’s incredibly thoughtful, beautifully balanced, and packed with flavor.

1. ITAMAE RESIDENCY AT MATY’S

Neighborhood: Midtown
Address: 3255 NE 1st Ave
Dish: Lobster Cebiche

Our number one ceviche in Miami came from the Itamae Residency inside Maty’s, which is currently closed. We’re hoping to see them resurface in a new space soon, because what they created took us to another dimension. Their creamy Lobster Ceviche with an ajo blanco leche de tigre was unforgettable — delicate and unlike anything else we tasted.
